How the walk is worked out

No hire car, no rideshare from a country station at 9pm. Here's exactly how we decide whether a stay is walkable.

  1. Step 1

    Every station, mapped

We hold the latitude, longitude and postcode for 96 V/Line stations across 12 corridors, plus the metro interchanges V/Line services call at.

  2. Step 2

    Listings matched to the platform

Airbnb listings are pulled by geo-radius around each platform (2.5 km) and priced from Airbnb's published nightly calendar. Confirm the dates are still free on Airbnb before you book.

  3. Step 3

    A real walking estimate

Straight-line distance is scaled by 1.25× to allow for real street networks, then divided by a steady 5.5 km/h pace to give a walk time in minutes.

  4. Step 4

    One to thirteen nights

Prices shown are the total for your dates, so a three-night midweek escape and a long weekend are directly comparable.

A note on accuracy

Walk times are estimates. Level crossings, unsealed shoulders, hills and rivers all conspire against a tidy formula, so treat the number as a guide and check the route on a map before you book — particularly if you're arriving after dark or travelling with luggage.
