Albury line
Wine, rail trails and alpine foothills
The North East line is the most scenic run in the network: Euroa's granite hills, Benalla's lake, Wangaratta at the meeting of two rivers, and finally the Murray at Wodonga.
It is also the rail trail line. Wangaratta and Beechworth-bound riders start from the platform, and Milawa, Rutherglen and the King Valley are all in easy striking distance.
A sealed, mostly flat rail trail running from the Wangaratta platform into wine and alpine country — bring or hire a bike and ride out of the station.
Prosecco road in the King Valley and fortified legends in Rutherglen, both within an easy shuttle of the line.
A lakeside gallery, rose gardens and a town-wide street art trail make Benalla an underrated one-night stop.
A main street so intact it doubles as a film set, with a handful of pubs and a bakery that justify the detour on their own.
